A Summer for Dying
Published in Paperback by Harper Mass Market Paperbacks (August, 1900)
Author: Jamie Katz
Average review score:

Looking for trouble
Delighted that Dan Kardon gets to ride again. Jamie Katz second book is as good as his first. Kardon doesn't seem to look for trouble but he always manages find it. The author's legal expertise allows him to take the reader in a comfortable way through complex legal areas such as environment, local government, planning consents. He also manages to keep the spotlight on the good side of the legal profession - where the lawyer just wants to help the client and fees aren't an issue -or is Dan Kardon part of a dying breed of lawyers?? With a busy schedule I don't find the time to read a book at one session so my test for the quality of a book is how keen I am to get back to it each night - A Summer for Dying had me heading for bed early - so it passed the test with flying colours. Am looking forward to seeing where Jamie Katz takes Dan Kardon next - hopefully, he'll bring Jenny Crane back in to the action.

Great summer reading
Boston attorney Daniel Kardon and his partner and lover Jenny Crane feel good about life and the future. Their rising law firm agrees to accept black entrepreneur Jerome Mann and his professional basketball-playing cousin Daryl as clients. Daniel believes this deal will provide them a slam dunk opportunity for success.

Jerome owns property in Meadowbrook, where his plans for a massive real estate venture involving ghetto kids has had local opposition, as no one wants inner city youth near their homes. Endangered turtles residing on the property has also slowed down development. Jerome expects Daniel (Jenny had to go home to care for her ailing mother) to resolve the problems. However, a new issue surfaces when someone murders Jerome and the law enforcement officials immediately turn to the most likely black person, Daryl, as the prime suspect. Now Daniel needs to prove his remaining client is innocent.

A SUMMER FOR DYING is an entertaining legal thriller that centers on the middle class white person's seemingly negative gut reaction towards a black person, especially a successful one. The story line is fast-paced and filled with action. Daniel is a warm character whose motives are fully developed. The prime support cast also seems real and the turtle environmental issue will remind the audience of the endangered woodpecker at Fort Bragg, who slowed down the army much more than Hussein did. Jamie Katz provides readers with an enjoyable tale that hopefully will lead to a series for Daniel with Jenny staying for more pages in New England.

Summer Lightning
Published in Audio Cassette by Soundelux Audio Pub (June, 1990)
Author: P. G. Wodehouse
Average review score:

The best of Wodehouse
Summer Lightening is the best Wodehouse novel, introducing many elements for the first time reader which reappear in many other Blandings Castle books. The major elements are: the prize pig called Empress of Blandings, a secretary named Baxter who is very intelligent but not liked by Lord Emsworth, who is the family head but detests everything except the pig, his younger brother Galahad, who is at peak of health by avoiding all healthy stuff, and their imperial sisters who control everyone around them. Read the book and savour.

Blandings at its best, with the arrival of Gally
The Hon. Galahad Threepwood, younger brother of Lord Emsworth, is at Blandings Castle writing his memoirs, much to the consternation of their sister, Lady Constance Keeble, and many blue-blooded neighbors. Amid this, young love becomes repeatedly unstuck, imposters arrive, Baxter returns, and The Empress of Blandings is stolen. All seems lost, until ...

This may be the best of the Blandings series. It introduced Gally, a charming, disreputable younger son of an Earl whose main crimes are enjoying life and refusing to be a snob. He's an older gentleman who is rarely without a whisky in his hand or a story on his lips. If you've never read Wodehouse's Blandings books, this is a good place to start, followed by its sequel, Heavy Wather.

Summer Meditations
Published in Hardcover by Knopf (July, 1992)
Authors: Vaclav Havel and Paul Wilson
Average review score:

Tremendous!
How many politicians take the time to sit back and think about their career, the world around them, and the state of affairs in general? How many take the time to then write what they are thinking and share it with the world? Few; almost none. That is what makes Havel so special and this book so inspiring. By the time you read it many of the arguments he makes for and against certain laws or policies may be largely moot. But that isn't the point! The point of the book is to look at Havel's sense of morality and his philosophy of politics and government. Every politician should be required to read this book!

A breath of fresh air in a world of political smog and smut.
Havel's heart is placed on each page. His masterful ability to break down complex issues with his personal moral code inspires hope and resolve in the reader. A true world leader and example in a world of fallen leaders and stained examples. The reader leaves the book a better person. And in the final analysis, isn't this what it is all about? Havel thinks so.

Summer of My German Soldier (Large Print Cornerstone Ser)
Published in Hardcover by Library Reproduction Services (September, 2000)
Author: Bette Green
Average review score:

Amazing Book
I read this book in school in the 10th grade. I got hooked and ended up reading the entire book at home one night. Lucky thing I did because it made me cry and I rarely cry while reading a book! It's not just a book for children! Be sure to check out the sequal! (Morning Is A Long Time Coming)

Summer Of My German Soldier
This is a very interesting book. It may seem boring at first but after 1 or 2 chapters it becomes interesting. This book is kind of a romance but not much. It's about a Jewish girl who helps out a Nazi POW. And at the end she is sent to a reform school.

Summer of the Barshinskeys

A Glorious Summer with Every Human Passion!
In the summer of 1902 everything was so perfect in the tiny English village and then the Barshiskey's moved it and turned the next door neighbors, the Willoughby's, world upside down.

Every minute is enjoyable, from the domestic intrigue in the village's fanciest homes to a frenzied love affair in St Petersberg, from idyllic afternoons in Tyler's Meadow to frozen, frightened nights in Quaker camps devoted to the Russian poor, from its splendid beginning to a happy ending you will savor every minute of it, just as I did.

Enjoyable
A really enjoyable read. Lots of vivid descriptions of places. A favourite.

Summer of the Falcon

Average review score:

SOARS!
This is a lovely story about how a falcon became part of a person's life. This beautiful, independent bird is the central character in this story; the large predator soars across the story, taking the readers along for the trip.

This is such a worthwhile book. It will especially appeal to people who love falcons.

nicely printed
if you like to read about hawks, ospreys, falcons, eagles, or any birds of prey, this is the book 4 u.

Summer of the Nixen

Author: Claude Peter LeCesne
Average review score:

Had me laughing out loud!
Hey--this is a great book! Creative and entertaining, good leisure-time reading for all ages. And best of all, really funny! The comical situations sneak up on you and leave you laughing until it hurts (but in a good way). I've cleared a shelf in my bookcase for more books by LeCesne. In the meantime, I'm going to read this one again.

An Excellent Adventure For the Whole Family!
Summer of the Nixon is an excellent sci/horror novel in the tradition of Harry Potter, and like the Potter novels; this book isn't for kids only. Fast paced, original and easy to read, the book has teen romance and demon battling reminiscent of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, complete with powerful super chick and wise-cracking band of misfit sidekicks. When the kids accidentally freeze time they unleash the hoard of nix, a rampaging band of demons that will destroy the world if not stopped soon! It's a page-turner, and well worth the cost, if you're smart, you'll buy two and give one to someone you love!
